On November 15 in 1884 The Berlin Conference began. It was convened to set up the rules of the Scramble For Africa. The Conference allowed the leaders to create a method of dividing the continent of Africa between the European powers of the time. No Africans were in attendance of this meeting. With this conference they ensured that the division of Africa would take place without war among the European powers. Through the Berlin Act, the European powers justified dividing a continent among themselves without considering the desires of the indigenous peoples of the continent.
Major colonial holdings included:
Great Britain desired a Cape-to-Cairo collection of colonies and almost succeeded though their control of Egypt, Sudan (Anglo-Egyptian Sudan), Uganda, Kenya (British East Africa), South Africa, and Zambia, Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), and Botswana. The British also controlled Nigeria and Ghana (Gold Coast).
France took much of western Africa, from Mauritania to Chad (French West Africa) and Gabon and the Republic of Congo (French Equatorial Africa).
Belgium and King Leopold II controlled the Democratic Republic of Congo (Belgian Congo).
Portugal took Mozambique in the east and Angola in the west.
Italy’s holdings were Somalia (Italian Somaliland) and a portion of Ethiopia.
Germany took Namibia (German Southwest Africa) and Tanzania (German East Africa).
Spain claimed the smallest territory – Equatorial Guinea (Rio Muni).
How Europe Underdeveloped Africa
Africa was so great before greedy hands came and stole it’s resources, raped and enslaved the people, stole and replaced their religion, leaving behind destruction and corruption.
Countries like china and India used to study in universities in Africa and exchange gold for books. Many cultures travelled to and was educated in Africa and returned back. Hence why you can find African influence in every brown skin land. These countries used to trade with each other centuries before Christopher Columbus was lost in the sea. When Europe was just land, people in Egypt were building pyramids. Research “History of Europe” the first line reads.. “The first HOMO SAPIENS arrived out of AFRICA between 45,000 and 25,000 BC” What was happening before? Nothing lol.
Ask your teacher what was happening in Africa before western settlers arrived. They can’t tell you, they aren’t paid to. They don’t want people to know the greatness of this continent. That isn’t going to boast the agenda. I left school thinking Africa was a poor country that the world had to help, for humanities sake. Lucky enough, my mother educated me at home, so I knew the truth about the motherland, and who built this world and why they are still bring oppressed today!
But the west has caused nothing but destruction in Africa. But don’t take my word for it, research and find out what was happening here before western travellers settled. This place was amazing and will rise again. I may not see it in my life time, but life begun here and so here it will end.
This wasn’t designed to offend but enlighten. Research and stop falling for the lies.
Africa the great,
